Emprego LIFE Arċipelagu Garnija Project Warden Vacancy (M/F) Empresa:BirdLife Malta Data Publicação:02/12/2016 Introdução :BirdLife Malta is looking for one full-time Project Warden to join their international team in the LIFE Arcipelagu Garnija project to carry out a range of seabird monitoring and wardening duties at Yelkouan Shearwaters nesting sites in the Maltese islands. The Project Warden will be based in our offices and will work in relevant Natura 200 sites. BirdLife Malta’s LIFE Arcipelagu Garnija project aims at securing the Maltese Islands for the Yelkouan Shearwater, of where approximately 10% of the species’ global population can be found. Protection of this local population is important on the global scale, especially with the drastic declines Yelkouan Shearwaters have been facing over the last decades. Descrição da Função:Overall purpose of the job: To carry out a range of seabird monitoring and wardening duties at Yelkouan Shearwaters nesting sites in the Maltese islands. Main Duties: Site management 1. Carry out works on the sites following the designated management plans and relating to the monitoring and conservation of the Yelkouan Shearwater (building and setting-up nest boxes, determining breeding success, etc). 2. Carry out predator control work at various sites to protect nesting sites, including on steep cliffs. 3. Use heavy and dangerous equipment for conservation management. Site based research and data gathering 4. Assist in the ongoing monitoring and research activities of Yelkouan Shearwaters, their threats and conservation measures. 5. Undertaking surveys of other fauna associated with the sites. 6. Desk based work to compile process and analyse data collected. Public Relations 7. Carry out wardening duties at key terrestrial locations to educate the public about shearwaters and change their behaviour (e.g. discourage littering, barbecues on cliff tops, etc.). 8. Carry out wardening duties at sea close to nesting sites to educate the public and change their behaviour (e.g. noise pollution from boats, disturbing nest sites, etc.). 9. To assist or lead in practical conservation work involving volunteers and to supervise those volunteers. 10. To produce risk assessment and ensure the safety of the public when they are on the sites. Reporting 11. To produce reports as required on activity for the funder Other Relevant Factors: 12. The employee must be willing to work in harsh conditions, since a significant amount of the work is carried out outdoors in exposed locations. 13. Daily working hours will vary to ensure the best time of the day for bird monitoring and also to avoid the harsh weather conditions. 14. Regular works outside of office hours, including evenings and nights, weekends and Bank Holidays for which Time off in lieu can be claimed. 15.Required to maintain confidential information.
